Frequently Asked Questions

Helpful Information Before Your Visit

Your first visit is focused on understanding what is limiting you and what you want to accomplish. Your physical therapist will discuss your symptoms, health history, daily activities, and goals before completing a detailed assessment.

From there, we’ll explain what we found and create a personalized plan designed around your needs, not a standard protocol.

Do I need a referral to schedule an appointment?

No referral is required. Because we're a cash-pay practice, you can schedule an evaluation directly without waiting for insurance approvals or a physician referral. If you have questions about your specific situation, we're happy to help.

What should I wear?

For physical therapy, wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move easily. Your physical therapist will need to assess your movement, strength, and mobility, so clothing that allows access to the area being evaluated is helpful. For example, shorts are helpful for knee, hip, or lower extremity concerns, and a tank top or fitted shirt may be helpful for shoulder or upper body evaluations. If you're unsure what to wear, choose something you feel comfortable moving in, we'll guide you from there.

For EMS, you'll wear a lightweight base layer underneath the EMS suit. We provide guidance on what works best, and dressing rooms are available so you can arrive comfortably and change when needed.

How long is an appointment?

For Physical Therapy, every new patient evaluation is a full 60 minutes. We believe great care starts with taking the time to truly understand you, not just your injury. During your first visit, we'll complete a comprehensive assessment, discuss your goals, and create a personalized treatment plan. Follow-up appointments are individualized and may be scheduled for 30, 45, or 60 minutes depending on your needs and progress.

EMS sessions are scheduled for 30 minutes. The active training portion typically lasts around 20 minutes, as research has shown this amount of time can be highly effective when EMS is used appropriately.

How many visits will I need?

There isn't a one-size-fits-all answer, and that's by design. Your plan of care is based on your condition, goals, lifestyle, and how your body responds to treatment. After your evaluation, your physical therapist will discuss their recommendations and work with you to create a plan that fits your needs. Our goal is to help you achieve lasting results, not keep you in treatment longer than necessary.

Will I receive exercises to do at home?

In most cases, yes. Your home exercise program is an important part of your recovery and is designed specifically for your goals, lifestyle, and stage of healing. We focus on quality over quantity, providing exercises that complement your treatment and help you continue making progress between visits.

Is physical therapy only for injuries?

No. Physical therapy is about optimizing the way you move, not just recovering from injury. We help people recover after injuries and surgery, but we also work with active adults, athletes, new moms returning to exercise, individuals with persistent pain, and anyone looking to improve strength, movement, balance, or performance. Wherever you are in your movement journey, we'll create a plan that's built around your goals.

Will I work with the same physical therapist?

Yes, in most cases, you will. We believe consistency is an important part of great care, so you'll typically work with the same physical therapist throughout your treatment. This allows your therapist to truly understand your goals, monitor your progress, and adjust your plan as you improve.

If your therapist is unavailable or you need to be seen sooner, our team works closely together to ensure you receive the same high-quality, individualized care from another member of our team.

What should I bring to my first visit?

Before your first visit, we'll email you any necessary paperwork. We kindly ask that you complete these forms before arriving so we can spend more time focusing on you during your appointment.

Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely. If you're coming for an EMS session, we also recommend arriving well-hydrated and having eaten a balanced meal beforehand to help you feel your best during training.

Do you accept insurance?

No. We are a cash-pay practice. By choosing not to contract with insurance companies, we're able to focus on what matters most: you. That means longer one-on-one appointments, individualized treatment plans, and care that's guided by your goals rather than insurance limitations or visit restrictions.

Why choose a cash-pay clinic?

We believe your care should be determined by your needs, not by your insurance company.

Our cash-pay model allows us to spend more time with each patient, provide truly individualized care, and use the treatments we believe will help you most without being limited by insurance rules or reimbursement requirements.

Instead of rushing through appointments or following predetermined visit limits, we focus on delivering thoughtful, one-on-one care designed to help you achieve lasting results.

Can I submit my visits to insurance?

Because we are an out-of-network, cash-pay practice, payment is due at the time of service. If you'd like to pursue out-of-network reimbursement, we're happy to provide a superbill that you can submit to your insurance company.

Please note that reimbursement is never guaranteed and varies significantly between insurance plans. We do not complete additional insurance forms or communicate directly with insurance companies on your behalf.

Many of the services we provide, including extended one-on-one visits and specialized treatments, are not typically covered or fully reimbursed by insurance, which is one of the reasons we have chosen a cash-pay model.

Can I use HSA or FSA funds?

Yes! Health Savings Accounts (HSA) and Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) can typically be used to pay for our services.

What is your cancellation policy?

We require at least 24 hours’ notice for cancellations or rescheduling. Appointments cancelled or rescheduled with less than 24 hours’ notice may be subject to a cancellation fee.

We understand that unexpected circumstances and illness happen, and we will use discretion when appropriate. In particular, please do not come to an EMS session if you are feeling sick, EMS places a significant metabolic demand on the body, and exercising while ill may not be appropriate.

We appreciate your consideration in providing as much notice as possible. Your appointment time is reserved specifically for you, and timely cancellations allow us to offer that time to another patient.
